2014
The beautiful, dry, sunny spring weather continued through to mid July, leading us to initially predict an early harvest. However, the rest of the summer was fairly mediocre, and the cold and wet weather persisted until the end of August. We were expecting a good harvest in terms of quality and quantity; however, the very hot, sunny and dry conditions of September created a water deficit and reduced the vine’s capacity to ripen fully. We harvested grapes at 12°, but I am sure that we could have reached 12,5° with a little more water in the soil. This drought and heat also seriously reduced the yields and therefore left us with yet another deficit vintage: 46hl/ha for us. Lower volumes, but beautiful grapes with good concentration, no complains!
We managed to naturally ferment all the sugar with natural yields. The wines then spent the winter in the cold down to 5°C in January allowing tartaric crystals precipitation in the tanks and barrels rather than in the bottles after the filling... in March with the natural warming, the malolactic fermentations start when temperature reached 10 degrees in our cellar.
We can easily say that we hold an excellent vintage with fruit intensity and balance.
We will complete the memo about vintage 2014 in June when blandings will be done.
